I found it thoroughly lacking in self-awareness. I don't think you have to be a hardcore fanboy to grasp the premise of vampires living in a modern world. Yet for two hours we're taken around the bends very very slowly. The whole scene where one character starts going "Omigod that was a vampire!!! This can't happening!!!" is tired as hell. The purpose of inserting such a character is that it provides a convenient vehicle for exposition, where the viewers learn along with them. However, in this case the viewer already knows the score and has to wait on the character to catch up before we can make progress. And that's damn boring. The choice of actors for Blade is perplexing. He so distinctly un-Bladelike in appearance that he's forced to wear his shades cosntantly, even at night, or else people would tune in and wonder "Where's Blade? And who's the dork with shaved head?" On the upside, the lead actress is hot, and they certainly attired her properly throughout the episode. Unfortunately, I suspect this show will just go through the motions without delivering any real surprises. I was especially distressed when Blade tells Krista that her brother was "a good man". The Blade from the movies wouldn't say something like that. EDIT--Btw, note that the bad guys belong to the House of Chthon. In Marvel Comics, Chthon is one of the elder gods who roamed the earth before the dawn of man. He wrote the Darkhold, the book that's responsible for creating vampires.
