Blending Hackmaster and 3e

Yeah, I know, oil and water, with a hefty dose of blasphemy thrown in.

I'm kicking around the idea of running some of the Hackmaster revamped 1e modules using 3e rules. I've houseruled in a few things to make it work, including a new multiclass system, but the extra attacks of 3e characters has me stumped. Fighters, rangers, etc is no big deal, I think the fact that their attacks are staggerred at -5 balances out the greater number of attacks. An extra attack for a mage is no biggy, either. Clerics and rogues, however, present a problem. a high level cleric with 2 or 3 attacks makes the monsters a bit too weak, as they are nowhere near the strength of 3e monsters. I thought about just giving everyone sans fighter types aone attack only, ala 1e, but I don't want to tick off guys who have been playing 3e for for four and a half years. Other than using the 3e version of monsters, or similarly beefing up monsters, is there any practical way to balance Hackmaster creatures with 3e characters? Maybe leaving the 20 point kicker in would work?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Surely someone else is a Hackmaster fan? I realize this is mostly a D20 board, but HM is still D&D.

Anyways, I'm thinking low levels would work fine, but when the cleric and rogue get that extra attack, it might unbalance things a bit. Any ideas?

Well, to be honest... The two systems are so different in so many ways. Were I going to run a Hackmaster/3e campaign, I'd just use the d20 rules, abandon traditional 3.5e experience mechanics and wealth expectations, and tack on Honor rules.

I think you may have better luck on the hackmaster boards at kenzerco.com.

.

Are you kidding? Mention D20 and Hackmaster in the same breath over there and you're likely to get stoned to death!
