Blink in the planes

Hi,

In Planescape/2e, the spell blink didn't work on planes which didn't connect with the Ethereal plane. Is this the case in 3.x? I can't find anything in the rules so it seems as if the spell works everywhere.

Is this right?

Thanks

There's no reason to think it has changed; it's just that most campaigns do not involve difficulties connecting with the Ethereal Plane, so it isn't mentioned.

You “blink” back and forth between the Material Plane and the Ethereal Plane.

Quite obviously if you can't reach the Ethereal Plane, you can't benefit.

One particularly confusing reference is in the 3.0 module Bastion of Broken Souls which I'm running at the moment. In the section on the Positive Energy Plane it says "The Ethereal Plane is not coexistent with the Positive Energy Plane and thus creatures here cannot become ethereal." Two pages later, it describes the tactics for a hezrou including "it casts blink on itself." Doh!

the DMG mentions that the ethereal plane coexists with the prime material plane and with most other planes.
So, on most planes the blink spell will work normally.

On planes that do not coexist with the ethereal plane, it will probably fail.

it could also transfer you part of the time to one of the other transient planes, like the plane of shadow and the astral plane.....
