Blink spell help

The description for the Blink spell is kind of confusing. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong:

You shift back and forth between the Material Plane & the Ethereal Plane. So it looks like you are blipping out of site at random intervals?

You can move through solid objects but may appear back in the Material plane 50% of the time. If so, you take damage ect ect.

The last paragraph is where I get confused. It describes an Ethereal creature being invisible, incorpreal, and capable of moving in any direction (up or down). Is this paragraph just referring to while you are on the Ethereal Plane? You aren't actually able to move in any direction on the Material Plane with this spell, correct?

Right.

And the problem with moving upward while Blinking is that every time you blink back to the Material plane, gravity takes over...

Another blink question - the three-quarters movement statement - does that apply to all movement or only when moving through objects?

I thought the comment about moving upward was just flavor/reasoning for why blinking reduces the falling damage. Nope, that is stated on another line, so I guess you have 50% chance to move up for 1/4 of your movement. Of course you fall right back down. Perhaps this fits into the Jumping/Falling for Higher ground attack bonuses discussion. Everyone moves up 5' unless you are a barbarian or monk, or on a mount you can convince to move upward.

All movement.

Movement on the ethereal plane is half-normal. That's why you move at three-quarters rate, because half of the time you move on the material plane (full movement) and the other half on the ethereal plane (half movement), so on average you move at three-quarters rate.

Of course, when you move all the way through some large object with a streak of luck (make the 50% roll every 5 feet), you should end up only moving at half-speed throughout, since all your movement obviously happens on the ethereal plane, but the rules do not go into that much detail. ;)
