[QUOTE="kenmarable, post: 7731677, member: 40359"] You're right, I shouldn't have been so definitive, since it is a matter of taste. I can see the appeal of the multiple realities solution you mention, but, to me personally, it seems to add even more unnecessary complexity than the Realms Shattering Events. It certainly works well for maintaining canon purity, but (again, for me personally) I never cared for canon purity and just play it fast and loose. If there is a change that I like, I use it, if there if stuff I don't like, I ignore it. Only explain what needs explaining (which usually isn't much). *shrug* Thankfully, I haven't had any canon purists in my games or they would weep (or more likely, I'd alter to accommodate their interests.) ;) For example, in the Dark Elf trilogy, Salvatore did some really great stuff with infravision and I wish the fiction could continue that, but in my games, I am so much happier with darkvision than infravision and ultravision and have never looked back or bothered to explain the change and my players agree. Multiple realities can be a great explanation for some, but it doesn't work for me. (Although, I can see having some fun with jumping realities where you then need to recreate your character under a different ruleset and then playing a bit under older rules. But I'd only want to do that with veteran players already familiar with the older rules and right now I mostly game either with new players and only play with veterans rarely enough that jumping rule sets would be more work than fun. Ah well, maybe someday.) But for some, I can see multiple realities being a nice, clean solution that can explain everything. Cool find, though! I'll have to dig up that article and read it someday.
