Sounds interesting, although I'm not at all familiar with the subgenre it's inspired by.

But it'll be different, and that's a good thing.

And a magic deer companion? Why, we'll make a gamer out of my wife yet.

Tamora Pierce's books tends to be in the juvenile or young adult sections of the bookstores, but are great books to read. Mercedes Lackey is actually one of my favorite writers, my wife and I met in a fan group for that author, so definitely a selling point for me. In fact I do believe out of our 8 person (4 couple) gaming group, every one of us is a fan or had at least read several of Mercedes lackey's books. Can't say I've ever read Diane Duane but I may go back and look.

Note..many of Mercedes Lackey's books are considered young adult novels, although some deal with homosexuality, rape, incest, and other well not normally considered juvenile topics.

Should make for some interesting sourcebook.

Didn't Mercedes Lackey also write a bunch of really bad books in a kind of "elfpunk" genre, about runaway teenage girls living on the streets, settling in with die-hard RenFaire types and finding real elves living in the modern world? Or am I thinking of someone else? Because those books really turned me off back in the day.

I've never read any Mercedes Lackey books, but I did date a girl who was a huge fan of his. His books got her into absolutely loving fantasy, especially gryphons. I've seen books that have something along the lines of your description, Joshua. I saw a cover that had a car that reminded me of the DeLorean model. To the general public, those books were very unappealing. Those covers and the ones to Piers Anthony books really polarized me away.

I'm getting curious about this Blue Rose. I'll have to check it out.

Hey, BM, what part of Panhandle country do you live in these days? My folks moved to Lubbock a few years ago. Nice town. I've only been to visit twice, but it's still pretty nice.

This game is basically aimed at young girls, right? I'm wondering why they don't say anything about the genre in the press.

I actually imagine it is more aimed towards the social roleplaying style... not particularly towards young girls. At least that would be my interpretation... otherwise yes, they would need to be marketing at the more general public, since that would seem to be a means to draw a new audience into the game.
