a new fiend, or a new devil? I was planning to create another Baatezu... something in the traditional line of tempting mortals to sin, as I had been discussing in "Where have all the devils gone?" I think we agreed may greed or gluttony would be good sins to accentuate, so I was going to bend my efforts that way. If you're keen to make a new type of Fiend, however, let's see what I can come up with. It'll be difficult without MotP to reference... Tampenar'ri (new fiend type): Specializing in illusion magics and displacement, the Tampenar'ri are the vile tricksters of the fiend realm, coming to the Material planes to lead mortals astray with promises of treasure or safe haven, into the wilderness or other dangers, only to abandon them to the elements. Some specialize in stealing away mortal children. Tampenar'ri often make deals with Lamias or other wilderness predtors, handing them the occasional meal in exchange for protection or guardianship of a particular site, or anything else the fiend would need of such creatures. Loki also makes use of these fiends when he wants to test or drive mad a particularly troublesome mortal, without having to do so himself. They are becoming as frequently summoned as Yugoloths, as they are quite effective and not particularly political. On the mortal planes, they appear as suits them, usually reading peoples' minds to find a form they will trust. While Baatezu tempt mortals into sin, and Tanar'ri terrorize their victims, Tampenar'ri tempt mortals into an early demise, perhaps terrorizing them, perhaps simply letting them suffer alone. Plane: They probably come from a neutral evil plane with chaotic tendencies... can't think of one at the moment. Abilities: They would all have Change Self, detect thoughts, resistance to lightning and fire, and immunity to poisons. They would have innate displacement, blink, illusionary and similar abilities, in addition to their spell-like abilities.
