Boccob's Book Question

Roll for Initiative!
Alright, somehow my group has come up with two conflicting interpretations on exactly how Boccob's Blessed Book works.

Specifically, the description says, "The book freely accepts 45 spells of any level." Does this mean:

A) The book "freely accepts spells" without need of special preperation. (As opposed to regular spell books which must be specially treated and requires 2 pages per spell level times 100 gp to do so.)

Or

B) The book functions only as a small spell book that has between 45 pages (for 45 0-level spells) and 810 pages (for 45 9th level spells). The pages must still be prepared as usual, 2 pages per spell level times 100 gp. The bit about "freely accepts spells" is just flavor text.

The difference is quite extreme, but both methods seem possible. Option A saves not only space (since you can only get 100 pages in a regular spell book) but also saves lots of gold. Option B simply saves space.

It's option A.

Spells are free to scribe... only time is spent.

IIRC, some have even argued that it doesn't take the standard time either, though I think that is stretching the "freely" clause a bit.

All in all, one of the best magical items for wizards.

Agreed Tiberius.

And congrats on the post count. ;)

I belive by the desciption that the book has 45 pages, and that you can fit one spell on each page. Otherwise you would have spontaneously appearing pages.

I also think that the freely referes to the fact that you can put the spells in there, with no hinderance due to level or type. But considering the power of the item, and the danger/exspense in obtaining/making one, I'd go with free scribing, too. I'd definetly keep the time constraints, though.
