I haven't had an opportunity to check it out yet, but it sounds like EN Publishing's books would fit the bill...

But on your original thought... So, everyone will be a spontaneous caster like the bard and only have select spells?

Not exactly. If you want to play a druid type character you will just replace some of the bards innate abilities with ranger abilities. There will still be a sorcerer and wizard type caster, but they will be limited to 6th level spells through the 1st 20 character levels and they will have bonus feats and spell related abilities inplace of the BAB and bard skills. There may be other types of casters as well. I haven't worked everything out yet, but I like this idea most of all the ones we have kicked around and seems the easiest to implement.

OK. But what will you do to Magic items and magical creatures? You can't change the class part of the magic system without altering the entire magic system...

Craig and I had plans to brew beer on Saturday -- probably followed by boardgames but with the flooding and car problems, that's sort of up in the air. Anyone interested is (of course) welcome to join in on the fun. I've wanted to do some work around the house -- if I get motivated, Sunday might end up a good time for that. Might know better on Saturday.

I'm ready to play pool on friday, brew and boardgames on saturday, game on sunday.

Next boardgame that I will be buying is either heroscape or Goa. Leaning towards Heroscape.

I actually picked up Heroscape for my son for Christmas. It is fun with a lot of neat pieces to play around with. The board setup took forever though. The simple game was perhaps too simple, but I haven't read the advanced rules though.

Magic System

Hey guys! I had one of them thar apostrophes...

What if there were "time restrictions" placed on all magic.

Meaning you have to wait 1 round per spell level before you can again cast a spell of the same level... So, a wizard capable of 9th level spells, could start combat with a 9th level spell, but would then have to wait until the 10th round before he can cast another 9th level spell.

Now, magic items would be a little different. Say flaming would be double the + bonus. So, you could only use the flaming ability of a sword every other round. A Flaming Burst sword would only function every 4th round.

Potions and scrolls would be based on the level of the spell they contain.

Monters would fall under the same restrictions based on the spell level of their abilities.

Certain abilities would have to be "judgement called".

What do you think?
