Boots of Levitation

I was in the process of preparing to make these boots when I received some Boots of springing and striding which are more useful to my character... Anyways, I decided to make a customized belt of levitation but came up with 6000 GP for the price. Why are the boots 7500 gp? I just could not figure out. Especially since the effect is a limiting as the spell. Maybe I'm mistaken.

Making custom items is very dicey. The rules aren't perfect. Someone once said you could make a continual haste item for like 18,000, but obviously that kind of item should be way way more expensive than that. The problem is that a standard set of rules really can't cover every circumstance. The writers and testers even admitted that some of the costs of the item in the DMG were fudged some to make them more balanced.

So, here's the deal - if you wanted to make a belt of levitation, I'd certainly let you, however, I'd look at what else is out there with a similar ability, and put its cost relative to that one. So in this case, I'd say the DM should make you pay the cost of boots of levitation, but since you're making it yourself, you get to make it a belt instead.

I can see the fudging. I just can't on this item. Heck you can fly for less. (Wings of flying 2 hour duration). You can also fly for 15,000 which is right in line. But levitation, to me, is on the weak side of 2nd level spells plus it has a longer duration ... Well I'm just complaining then.

And yes I agree, keeping the costs close to other items of similar power is the right thing to do.
