It is an ability well out of proportion to the power of the creature, and a typical poorly-designed mechanic. Even if you toss heroic fiction comparisons aside, an ill-informed strike costing a character tens of thousands of gp worth of equipment is unbalancing to the game, IMO.</blockquote>
