Flame/shock or similiar type weapon Verse Burst weapon. Each has there uses. The first will give extra damage of two different types to each and every attack. Good against things without any restiances. Aganist something with a resistance, and these weapons lose power fast. This weapon is the steady runner. Burst is a gamble. It's either going to be really good or not so good becasue it depends on a random die roll to be effective. To really take adavantage of it you want either a very high crit modifier (for more damge), or a really high crit range (to increase chance of using ability). The effectiveness of this weapon doubles with Improved crit or Keen weapon ability, triple with both. I see this weapon as designed for getting through creatures restiances. Though why you'd want a fire dealing weapon against a fire resistant creature is beyond me. What do I think? I think flaming and those should not be in the game. And extra d6 is boring. Instead, make burst a +1 ability that only does extra damage on a crit. Much more interesting. But, no one else would ever admit to thinking like that so that might be moot. I allow both in my game. I'm not one that has combat drive the story, so allowing things that are strong in combat will never disrupt my game. Sure, the extra damge from a frost/shock weapon is really good, but I'll be a prick DM and throw things against you that are resistant to one or both of these if I think your abusing things. Personally, in a game I'm playing in my bard specifically has Acidic burst on his whip, instead of acid/flaming because it made more sense for the character. I do have improved crit to help the enchanment, but I don't have or have access to any kind of keen ability.
