I expect that if I painted 98 miniatures my skill level would improve, however, my investment in time and money would be far greater. Likewise, these minis seem more durable to average wear and tear. Less chance of a broken sword and so on. My only complaints would be the randomness as well as the rarity of certain minis. I would like to see Wizards of the Coast do something to suppliment these things. For example, monsters that are usually encountered in groups or pack (orcs, goblins, lizard folk, kolbolds, wolves, harpies, etc.) should also be sold in packs. If you wanted to, and you needed a few more orcs, you could get an orc pack. It would give those who want to use minis in their game a little more control over the situation. The random factor is fine to a certain degree, but I would rather have 10 orcs than 10 drunken masters. Some of the minis, it seems, are only useful to a point. Monsters like orcs, on the other hand, are always useful. I would like to be able to start getting some of these monsters in bulk. Similar with dragons or other rare but useful monsters. It should be possible for a DM whos PCs are about to encounter a dragon to have one on hand when the need arises, and one of the proper color.
In less than 48 hours I have purchased 10 boosters and a starter kit. I will continue to buy as many as I can, in spite of the price increase. I have no complaints with the minis I have bought thus far. The price increase, while I hope it doesn't go too much higher, is fine for right now. The paint jobs, while I have noticed an ocasional problem, aren't terrible IMO. They are better than a solid color of molded plastic or an unpainted metal mini. I have 98 D&D minis that have a paint job above my skill level of painting. In my boosters, 4 of which were Dragonseye, I was lucky enough to score the black dragon and a small white dragon. However some of the other chromatics would be nice too. I'd like to have a green, blue and red. Those are just some of my feelings on the minis, they are pretty nice IMO and I will not be boycotting WotC. Those that do are just leaving more minis in circulation for me to buy. And that increases my chances of getting my chromatic dragons. :D
