bracers of entangling blast

First Post
bracers of entangling blast pg 80 in MIC.
at your option damage from yours spells is halved and target's damaged by the spell are then entangled automatically for 1d3 rounds.
you can do this 3x per day.

notice that there is no saving throw offered to resist the effects of entanglement.
That seems a little out of balance to me. You can completely immobilize high level villains with acid splash, while rouges everywhere rejoice in round after round of full attack action sneak attack delight.

Anyway if no saving throw I want to find as many spells that both cause damage and have other effects. spells like sound blast are perfect for this because really the damage is secondary anyway. causing deafness and entangling is double plus good.
Also area affect spells that last for many rounds. pretty convenient if you can keep a badguy stuck in a wall of fire.

Also I was wondering what applications if any this might have for a dagger spell mage rouge combo?

You should go look up what entangled means again. First, it doesn't immobilize people, it simply halves their speed and prevents running. Secondly, it doesn't make them helpless nor deny them their dexterity bonus to AC, so the rogue won't be able to sneak attack.

It's a pretty nice effect, especially for a cheap item like that, but it's nothing more than a short debuff.

yeah, i know it is about to be 8 years late.

We started using parboil (sandstorm) with these puppys. Considering 4 int damage a round is pretty hefty, and the moment they get meta magic on them, it goes up.
(although my DM almost immediately set an escape DC on the entangle...)
