Message: <blockquote data-quote="Set" data-source="post: 4573654" data-attributes="member: 41584">Slow Pete is a sailor, who thinks his name comes from his laconic nature, but actually was given it by his fellow sailors, who love to beat him and cards, year after year, by taking advantage of his lack of smarts. He headed into the Chum House after his latest voyage as a swabbie on the Sea Dog, planning on his usual ritual when ashore in Freeport, drink some cheap grog, toss some blubber and fish heads to the sharks and lose a game of cards. On the way, he ran into some lady at the docks, singing the praises of some luck goddess he never heard of, and ended up slipping her a copper just to get her out of his way, as he was falling behind his fellow crewmen, who'd done a better job of avoiding her (by basically shoving him at her and walking off to leave him to deal with the panhandling priest!). Showing up late, he missed the first round of cards, and so went to the balcony to throw a fish head to the sharks, only to have a rotted bannister give way and dump him headfirst towards the water! He had time to scream, as a large shark lunged out of the water to snap at this taste morsel, but the shark *missed*, it's teeth snapping shut in his face, and the bulk of it's body slamming him back onto the balcony! He scooted back on his butt into the building, and the cheering patrons immediately re-christened him Lucky Pete. Now he seeks out that lady priest, to tell her how her goddess saved his life!</blockquote>
