(Brainstorming) In need of Rewards

Marimmar@Home

First Post
My party just entered a monastary that is overrun by some bad guys disguising themselves as the monks living there. After the party will have finished off those baddies I would like to give everyone a special reward. Since this is a monastary I would prefer the reward to be something written like e.g. the description of a martial arts Feat for the party's monk that he can choose when gaining a Feat next time.

The party consists of:
1) Dwarven Fighter 7 (Specialized in dwarven waraxe -- I consider giving him no reward since he just found a +2 dwarven waraxe)

2) Human Rnr1/Rog6 (Dual-wielding shortswords -- Since this is my own character I would like to give him a smaller reward so that noone can complain)

3) Human Monk 6 (I'm already a bit predetermined to let him find some script of how to do some new martial arts trick. I'll lend you an open ear on what this could be)

4) Elven Druid 7 (She's the one with the big animal companions and big bad area effect spells, she's also a good archer -- we haven't found much useful stuff for a druid up to now, so she's a bit short on magical stuff)

5) 1/2elf Mnk1/Evo6 (He's the one running up walls with spider climb and fireballing our enemies -- he looks like he's playing wizards only to be completely self reliant and not being at the mercy of whoever is DMing and handing out magic items; this should be the most tricky, maybe I should give him a jar with the illusion of a nice swamp for his toad :D)

6) Human Brd2/Clr4 (Our least efficient character, he who never does anything aside from dying -- may sound harsh but I'm inclined to give him nothing special since last time he DMed he gave his Character a +3 Frostbrand Rapier and he was only level 5 then. Can you say cheeese?)

So let's get those brain gears working and send me lots of ideas! Thanx for the input.

Uhm..

Why not give them the monasteray?

Somehow players always like real estate, and it eats away at their resources. ;) (cleaning, protection, taxes, etc.)

Well, the monastary is in a mountain range that sits in the middle of the desert Anauroch. I don't think that the party would like to stay there. Besides there are some survivors from the original staff that might be 'not amused'. :D

Unknown to him, the Waraxe also detects Giants and other Dwarven racial enemies within 120', glowing when it does... (Maybe at higher levels, after he has "proven himself", it will also reveal that it is intelligent, has has other powers, as well. This thang could have a history!)

[Edit: Typo, and added ideas for future development.]

Either an Amulet of Favoured Enemy Detection (from Masters of the Wild), or a "Ranger's Amulet" which grants Ambidexterity to anyone, and reduces the TWF penalties of anyone who already has Ambidexterity by 2/2, and gives full STR bonus on both attacks, if they already have Ambidexterity. (Net Effect, it removes the -2/-2 penalties and gives full - not half - STR bonus to both shortswords).

Otherwise, you might allow him or the Monk to find yet another scroll with a "Secret Twin-Shortsword Style" Martial Art that allows him to do the same thing as an Extraordinary ability, at some XP penalty, and only works in light armor, and with twin shortswords, yadda, yadda.

Maybe "Wall-Running", a limited-range (10'/level?) Extraordinary ability that will let him/her cover a short distance along a wall, or even run across the ceiling, at full speed, without falling off, so long as they are in bare feet. (Sort of a shorter-range Spider Climb, but non-magical, usable at will, and more restricted). Make sure the range takes into account how far a monk can move in a single round... expecially at higher levels.

[Edit: More typos!]

A Torc of Speak with Animals (Masters of the Wild).

Better yet, Mage Bracers. Give a small bonus to AC AND Saves, and also grant both to the familiar.

Oh, come on! Give the guy a silver ale mug or something! He can use it later to send a message back to the place if he ever has to.

2) Human Rnr1/Rog6 (Dual-wielding shortswords -- Since this is my own character I would like to give him a smaller reward so that noone can complain)

Personal fave -> armor that adds an extra 5 hp to heal attempts on the user when healed by a ranger or druid. Your character gets healed a little faster, which is good, but it isn't so snazzy that others will complain.

3) Human Monk 6 (I'm already a bit predetermined to let him find some script of how to do some new martial arts trick. I'll lend you an open ear on what this could be)

A tumble skill bonus maybe? +1 shouldn't be unbalancing

4) Elven Druid 7 (She's the one with the big animal companions and big bad area effect spells, she's also a good archer -- we haven't found much useful stuff for a druid up to now, so she's a bit short on magical stuff)

Hmmm. One of those metamagic rods from T&B perhaps?

5) 1/2elf Mnk1/Evo6 (He's the one running up walls with spider climb and fireballing our enemies -- he looks like he's playing wizards only to be completely self reliant and not being at the mercy of whoever is DMing and handing out magic items; this should be the most tricky, maybe I should give him a jar with the illusion of a nice swamp for his toad )

Make it a mini pocket dimension and I think you'll be good to go.

Then how about a "song" of healing? It would actually be a scroll but bards are currently the only arcane casters who can heal, so they can't use cleric scrolls, but heals are still on their spell lists. A scroll of cure serious wounds might be welcome. Just call it a "song" to add flavor.

You run a weird campaign... Normally, Druids can't use bows, and Frosrtbrands have to be two-handed swords! Sounds to me like you need to give this guy some better armor, though... and take away that sword! :p
