It's actually pretty much the first episode, too, only with really bad acting and effects. The effects got much better.

Also keep in mind it was never meant as a pilot.
Joss has said the network requested a 20 minute "presentation" to get a clear handle on what the show would look like and how it would operate structurally.
For instance, Joss has said they *always* intended to recast the Willow actress and it was never a consideration on the part of the studio to try and make it a 1/2 hour show.
