I think people are suggesting the ROG/FTR because its abilities are less situational in combat, and work better for your character concept. Giant Killer's bonus only works if your opponent is large or larger and is attacking you, and costs your reaction. Horde Breaker only works when there are two enemies adjacent to you. Relentless Harrier only works on damaged opponents. The first two are especially bad for your character, because not only do they require the DM to provide you with the right sort of targets, but they also require you to wade into melee range (which, as a ranged attacker I would just rather not do,) and in the case of CS, get the thing to attack you. Relentless Harrier is the least of the three evils, and even that one has its problems. It doesn't work on the first hit, will sometimes be pointless extra damage on the last hit, and can't be parceled out among more than one opponent if you don't need to focus fire. At least you can use it at range, so that's nice. In contrast, the fighter's maneuvers and Action Surge are available when you decide to use them, rather than when the situation allows you to do. The fighter's additional attack per turn is available every turn, and at range. Sneak Attack is something you can actively, very easily gain (as a Halfling, you can use the rogue's Cunning Action to hide as long as you're adjacent to a friend,) whereas the ranger combat features are given to you or not by your DM when he builds encounters. Finally, your extra attacks, maneuver and sneak attack damage can be spread among any number of targets you can attack, so you get more control over your damage dealing than you'd have with Relentless Harrier. There's also that ambush trick you get to pull as a lv.3 ROG (assassin)/lv.5+ FTR (Battle Master).
