Galileo Games has just released Bulldogs!, a d20 sci-fi game. Bulldogs! is only available for sale through our web site at present.
Bulldogs! is a solid, general ruleset for action-oriented space opera. It follows the sci-fi genre in that it focuses on alien races and interstellar travel, but it is definitely space opera in that the science is there to act as magic does in a fantasy setting--it's the special thing that allows these characters to do amazing stuff.
Bulldogs! has some setting material: a cold-war style galaxy with two dueling empires and a wild and occasionally lawless Frontier Zone between. This setting was designed for maximum adventure playability. There is plenty of room for GMs to create and add detail, but the basics are taken care of for those GMs who don't care to do this.
The game itself includes 9 alien races along with a human-style one, and I created specifically sci-fi classes for the space setting, eight in all, including bounty hunters, engineers, gunners, space pilots, medics, and space pirates. The really cool thing is a race generation system to allow you to create your own game-balanced alien races, a must for any sci-fi game, IMO. Plus, it's really fun to play!
Let me know if you have any further questions, I would be happy to answer them, and I hope you check Bulldogs! out.
