Bungie's Myth series

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone's ever tried turning Bungie's excellent Myth series of PC games into an RPG setting or anything like that. I remember it having an excellent storyline with evocative names and mythology (mostly Celtic -- although the American Indian journeymen who turned into Japanese samurai in Myth II were a bit weird).

Cheers,
Jonathan

Indeed, Steve Jackson Games published GURPS Myth. I think that you can pick it up at a steep discount through their online store as part of their ongoing 'purge GURPS 3x' effort. I owned it and liked it a lot (kind of wish I hadn't parted with it, in fact).

Interesting. What's it got in it? Is it mostly just the story elements? I'm most interested in the place names, the history, the mythology, etc. I've lost the actual computer games (I used to have the first two, never played the third), otherwise I'd just reinstall them and try to piece things together myself.

EDIT: Never mind, I've found the site and I see that they've got an excerpt including the ToC in pdf format on it. It's also only $10! Nice!

Yeah, it's rife with setting info, like most licensed GURPS products (which is why I bought it back in 2002). IIRC, it also has a neat chapter near the back of the book on using the Myth editing tools as an aid for tabletop roleplaying (though as the games are bit hard to find now, it might not be all that useful).

Yeah, I wish I hadn't gotten rid of mine ... :(

I don't actually plan on using the setting itself. I just want to plunder it for ideas. Since it was only $10 and they will ship it to New Zealand for $4, I went ahead and ordered a copy. I've never played GURPS and probably never will but for that price, I figured it was worth it just for the fluff. (I shoulda ordered myself Munchkin while I was at it but I didn't think of it until it was too late ...)

:) For years, this was the only reason I purchased GURPS sourcebooks (many of them are light on mechanics and contain mostly fluff, making them perfect idea mines).

I did this with a homebrew campaign. I was in love with Myth - especially Myth TFL and, to a slightly lesser extent, Myth SB. The game borrows much of its theme from Glen Cook's excellent Black Company series, so that's another source you may want to pillage for ideas.

My only regret is that I already used this with my players for a previous campaign, otherwise it would be perfect for 4e.

Good luck!

Awesome! I have no experience with GURPS. This'll be my first time.

Thanks. I'm pretty excited. I perused the info at bungie.org, which is pretty good but mostly just bits and pieces derived from the game text itself. It'll be nice to have it laid out in a presumably easier to read format.

I'll have to check out this Black Company series. Are they novels or something? Comics?

Novels but, IMHO, only ther first one in the series (e.g., "The Black Company" novel) has any great similarity to Myth. There is also an official Black Company campaign setting from Green Ronin, though it's kind of hard to find now (it was a one-off printing) and there is quite a bit of errata that no official fixes were ever issued for (though, you can download an unofficial errata document from my website here, that gathers the fixes offered by the BC designers and fans on the GR forums in one place).

Interesting. OK. Thanks.

Myth's such a great game with a fantastic story. It's a shame it doesn't have a bigger following.
