Since Burning Wheel has been nominated for a few ENnies, I thought I'd throw this question out:

Does Burning Wheel appeal to you as a D&D/fantasy rpg fan? For me, it most definitely does, I already own the revised books. I'm starting a new campaign and loving it. How many other ENWorlders have heard of, like or even play Burning Wheel?

I own the revised ed. and the Monster Burner. I owned the orignal ed., too, but the revised ed. came out befoe I got a chance to read it, so I donated it to a Gameday prize pool. :)

I don't know if my being a D&D fan has anything to do with the game's appeal or not. What I do know is that it's a beautifully presented, written, and designed game. It does evoke a certain "nostaliga for RPGs that never really existed" in me, I will admit.

None of my groups are likely to be interested in it, though. I'll probably end up running it at a Gameday at some point.

I feel very fortunate that I've been able to get my normally d20-oriented group to really get into it.

Please don't forget to vote on the poll. ;)

I think it does. It has lo9ts of rules, that d20 people seem to like. It presents a way to really create the various typical fantasy achetypes that the classes of d20 do,. I have yet to play the game, and I really want to reread it and monster Burner.

Alright, since it looks like a lot of people have never heard of it, here's Burning Wheel's website.

That doesn't suprise me at all. While the site has a little non d20 containtent and discussion (including a Burning Wheel thread I started a few weeks back) most of the pople here only want and are very happy with d20. I'd heard of burniong wheel through other sites but I'd never seen a coy of the game until the revised version came out. This book really has two hurdles. People have to hear of it, and then they have to hunt to find a copy.

It doesn't surprise me either, but I figured I'd just be informative. I'm sure some people would be interested to find out what Burning Wheel is. Or at least figure out what this poll is about...

Burning Wheel is a way fun game. It's got a cool system (although character creation will take a *long* time the first few times you do it) and while it has similiar fantasy motifs, it really is a different type of RPG. The system is decidedly not as combat-focused as D&D. Whereas in D&D almost all the abilities relate to combat or dungeon crawling somehow, the BW system encourages roleplaying.

Why does this appeal to D&D players, you ask? Well, for me it's a nice change of pace. It's fun to play, but I'd hate to DM it. My God, if you thought NPC creation in D&D was a pain...

Well, that depends on why they like or dislike D&D, doesn't it?

There's a fair amount of cross-pollination between ENWorld and rpg.net, and I know Burning Wheel is talked up a lot over there.
