Since we need a golfbag of weapons to deal with all the DR types in 3.5, I figured it would be handy to have the 'clubs' explained to the caddies. Thus, I have undertaken a simple guide to the frequency of DR types. I haven't decided on all the particulars. So far I have gone through the SRD and picked out every critter with DR (I am debating whether I should include incorporeal critters, which would go under magic- presently they are not included). There are approximately 90 (half types are counted once and dragons are all counted even though only older ones have DR) critters with DR. The below list will not sum up to the total number of monsters since it counts a DR type as long as it exists either solo or in an 'or' combination. DR Type #Monsters adamantine 3 adamantine+bludgeoning 1 bludgeoning 4 chaotic 3 cold iron 11 cold iron+evil 1 cold iron+good 2 cold iron+magic 1 epic 1 epic+evil 1 evil 6 good 18 good+piercing 1 lawful 1 magic 23 magic+bludgeoning 1 silver 12 silver+evil 1 silver+good 2 silver+magic 4 slashing 1 As we can see, magic remains important for DR purposes (incorporeal critters would bias things even more towards this). Adamantine is only rarely useful for this. Silver is slightly more useful than cold iron. Aligned weapons are quite important (good in particular). If people have suggestions on how to refine the guide, they will be welcome. I have only just started, and haven't even decided fully on what spreadsheet information is important. Also, it appears that some monsters aren't in the SRD, and I don't have the 3.5 MM yet, so this can not be seen as complete (no Slaad or Beholders, to name things which stick out in my mind). If people want the spreadsheet itself, I would be willing to e-mail it to people. buzzard
