[QUOTE="Cyan, post: 1047506, member: 11544"] I'm wondering how to read the Monster Manual section that states the attack sequence for monsters. Does the monster get all attacks listed (comma separated, 2 claws , bite, tail slap) If a monster makes several attacks does it get a penalty for doing so? Are the feats Mulitiattack and Multi weapon fighting included in the calculations. So basically can you just read the attack entry or do you have to adjust that your self to get the correct attack bonueses? Ok the marilith as an example. The single attack is longsword at +25, and the full attack also starts at +25 and the 5 offhand attacks also get +25. Shouldn't the primary attack be at +25 and the full/offhand attacks at +21. Seems strange that it will get the same modifier on both the single and the full attack. Can someone figure this out? MARILITH Large Outsider (Chaotic, Extraplanar, Evil) Hit Dice: 16d8+144 (216 hp) Initiative: +4 Speed: 40 ft. (8 squares) Armor Class: 29 (–1 size, +4 Dex, +16 natural), touch 13, flat-footed 25 Base Attack/Grapple: +16/+29 Attack: Longsword +25 melee (2d6+9/19–20) or slam +24 melee (1d8+9) or tail slap +24 melee (4d6+9) Full Attack: Primary longsword +25/+20/+15/+10 melee (2d6+9/19–20) and 5 longswords +25 melee (2d6+4/19–20) and tail slap +22 melee (4d6+4); or 6 slams +24 melee (1d8+9) and tail slap +22 melee (4d6+4) Space/Reach: 10 ft./10 ft. Special Attacks: Constrict 4d6+13, improved grab, spell-like abilities, summon demon Special Qualities: Damage reduction 10/good and cold iron, darkvision 60 ft., immunity to electricity and poison, resistance to acid 10, cold 10, and fire 10, spell resistance 25, telepathy 100 ft. Saves: Fort +19, Ref +14, Will +14 Abilities: Str 29, Dex 19, Con 29, Int 18, Wis 18, Cha 24 Skills: Bluff +26, Concentration +28, Diplomacy +30, Disguise +7 (+9 acting), Hide +19, Intimidate +28, Listen +31, Move Silently +23, Search 23, Sense Motive +23, Spellcraft +23 (+25 scrolls), Spot +31, Survival +4 (+6 following tracks), Use Magic Device +26 (+28 scrolls) Feats: Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Multiattack, Multiweapon Fighting, Power Attack, Weapon Focus (longsword) Environment: A chaotic evil-aligned plane Organization: Solitary or pair Challenge Rating: 17 Treasure: Standard coins; double goods; standard items, plus 1d4 magic weapons Alignment: Always chaotic evil Advancement: 17–20 HD (Large); 21–48 HD (Huge) Ok here's what the SRD says: MULTIATTACK [GENERAL] Prerequisite: Three or more natural attacks. Benefit: The creature’s secondary attacks with natural weapons take only a –2 penalty. Normal: Without this feat, the creature’s secondary attacks with natural weapons take a –5 penalty. MULTIWEAPON FIGHTING [GENERAL] Prerequisites: Dex 13, three or more hands. Benefit: Penalties for fighting with multiple weapons are reduced by 2 with the primary hand and reduced by 6 with off hands. Normal: A creature without this feat takes a –6 penalty on attacks made with its primary hand and a –10 penalty on attacks made with its off hands. (It has one primary hand, and all the others are off hands.) See Two-Weapon Fighting. Special: This feat replaces the Two-Weapon Fighting feat for creatures with more than two arms. This means that the penalties for the Marilith when it full attacks, should be: Main hand: -4 (-6+2 = -4) Off hand: -4 (-10+6 = -4) As I read it MULTIWEAPON FIGHTING can't be comined with MULTIATTACK - since that only applies for natural weapons. And no the mariliths swords are not natural attacks : (From the SRD) A marilith’s natural weapons, as well as any weapons it wields, are treated as chaotic-aligned and evil-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. If you tried it you would get stupid results: Main hand: (-6+2 = -4 (Mulitattack)) + (0 (MWF)) = -4 Off hand: -2(MWF) + 6(Mulitattack) = +4 This example was 3.5, if there's any difference with 3.0 please explain this as we mostly play 3.0 Ok this was a long post but I would really appriciate an answer too clear this up for me and my group.
