[California] Skip the Fireworks!!!

Spinachcat

First Post
If you live in California, skip the fireworks for this 4th of July and come to PolyCon instead. PolyCon has a 25+ year tradition of being an incredibly fun summer gaming convention in Central California (San Luis Obispo) which is located four hours south of Sacramento and four hours north of Los Angeles right near the coastline.

The convention hosts about 300 people who play RPGs, CCGs, LARPS, boardgames and miniatures from Friday at noon until Sunday afternoon when they launch the wildest auction you have ever attended.

I will be running teaching demos of D&D 4e, at least one demo of Goreblade: Heavy Metal Roleplaying and two sessions of Slaughterfest of Spawn - a giant minis game that uses McFarlane figs!

What would that put it? About 3 hours south of San Francisco?

(I'm new here so my map bearings aren't as good as they were on the east coast.)

My Dad lives in Nipomo, pretty darn close to SLO (25 mins). Sadly, I can't afford the gasoline to head up there from LA, but next year I might plan our summer trip around this so I can go to this for a day or two.

You can do it in 2 hours from south San Jose, 3 hours from the Penisula or the East Bay and sometimes 3 hours from SF. However, unless you are driving off hours, I always add an hour for Bay Area commutes because getting out of the freeway tangle during most hours is rough.

Throw some friends in the car and have them pay all gas in exchange for crashing at your Dad's place. Considering the cost of hotels vs. cost of gas, you would be ahead.
