I brought this up a while ago and someone was dissing it saying it was not that good. I saw it at the HPL Film Fest this year and it was one of the only two films worth watching that I saw. The coolest part is when one of the sailors is swallowed by the non-euclidean geometery. REally really cool -simple- camera trick.

Aaron.
You were there, too? Sorry I missed you. What other film did you like?

I saw it there. And the "swallowed by non-euclidean geometry" was my favorite part, as well. My favorite bit from the story and it's there on screen, wonderfully done.

However, the story itself (as in the original HPL tale) has a major problem, which repeats itself in the film: [sblock]The main event, the climax of the story, is basically the narrator sitting in Oslo and reading an old diary. Yawn.[/sblock] And, for me, [sblock]the special effects of Cthulhu himself don't work. Which is sad, because it's great in the trailer (just hinted at--very scary). But seeing the great Cthulhu full-on just doesn't work. King Kong (1933) - the stop motion makes him terrifying. Call of Cthulhu (2005) - the stop motion just makes him seems silly. And if I didn't know the story, it's pretty hard to tell that he's re-combining after he's blown apart by the ship.[/sblock]

Still, I now own the DVD, the soundtrack, and the poster. Yes, I'm a whore for Cthulhu. Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
