A neat weird event to start off an adventure would be to have the character(s) start by taking the bus trip to some far off destination that takes hours to arrive to. Sooner or later, sleep comes, and after awakening, the quick realization that no one else in the bus is present. The bus driver and the passengers have all gone missing. The player(s) would be the only human presence on the bus. Outside lies a heavy fog that obscures everything beyond the windows. I ran a campaign like this once, but it was a cross between Identity and Dreamcatcher. They had a stranger on the bus with a shaved head and a scar on the the side of his head. (from a self induced labotomy). The Bus actually is broken down and they all hoof it to a deserted snowy mountain town. During the way, The stranger on the bus (who the PC's named: Psychoboy) says he speaks to god, and that he saved the PCs. Eventually as Psychoboy learns more about his past, the more the strange events occur, and the more creatures begin to show up. Basically the PCs were already dead when the adventure started, it was a one shot game I did. I created an alien entity that devours your body inside out, and once it reaches your brain, there is no hope. Psychoboy was gifted. When he was infected, he gave himself a labotomy and once he forgot about what happened, the aliens in his brain forgot about themselves, and Psychoboy went into his memories and rescued the personalitys of the PCs to help him figure out whats going on. This all happened in his head, as Psychoboy was actually in a straight jacket in a mental institute.
