Calling Board Game Geeks and F1 Fans ...

... any Speed Circuit fans out there?

Watching the European GP today -- great race once Vettel dropped out, by the way -- I suddenly recalled playing round after round of Speed Circuit in my buddy's garage (in between Star Fleet Battles, Panzer Blitz, Axis & Allies, D&D, Gamma World, WizWar, Nuclear Escalation, and all of the other games we played).

Got nostalgic and looked it up, and found that not only are new tracks being produced by fans, but I found a decent used copy online.

Anyone here still play or remember the game?

Oddly enough, I was a member of a gaming group in Austin that played the game...but never while I was in attendance.

We almost played Car Wars, too. (I have a lot of the stuff to p,ay, but we never did arrange to play any.)

Yeah, Car Wars was another we played. There's a video game "first person shooter plus RPG" still hiding in that game concept, somewhere.

I think Speed Circuit would make a fun, if slightly complex, casual app game for smartphones -- "Racing with Friends", if you will. Imagine the monetization opportunities to pay an additional buck to get a car with specific livery ...

Never played or heard of Speed Circuit, but I've played Formula De and Pitchcar. From the pictures at Boardgame Geek I'm guessing Formula De is similar to Speed Circuit.

Similar to Formula De? Only in that it depicts car racing... ;)

In its original incarnation by 3M it's completely without any randomness. No dice, no cards, no tables. You design your car as you want it (about half of the victory) according to the course to be used and use careful ressource management during the race. It's a completely different experience.

Speed Circuit is still my favourite car racing game of all time.
