Hello there, If you are currently in our campaign here in South Jersey, please don't read any further! Thanks! Anyway, I know I am relatively new to these boards, but I am currently in need of some help, if anyone could provide me with some. I have a group of 7 PCs -- one of which I am currently need to NPC until his return -- that are making their way to the Necromancer Games' module, "The Tombs of Abysthor". I had gotten our campaign started from "The Crucible of Freya" which I modified to fit the "real" plot I have running concurrently with them. In any case, a lot is modified to also fit the campaign world, which is taking its own shape. Most of this information you can find within our website and our own forums for our campaigners (check my profile). The short of it is that I am taking them to the Monestary of the Standing Stone. I have incorporated part of the legends to include the fact that the founder of the Monestary, the Grand Master Kai, accompanied the legendary priest Abysthor (which the rest of the plot of the future module is based). This creates the basis for the fact that this Monestary has an age old tradition of the secret to find the Ancient Path, which leads to the Valley of the Shrines, and thus the Tombs. Grand Master Kai held onto this secret to help test the worthy, for only those would be permitted the knowledge to find the sacred site of the Valley. I wish to incorporate a special test -- or series of individual tests, or something! -- to enhance the character development and roleplaying and plot, etc. Especially since the characters will be going on to 6th level, I would like to make it a story-element to give a "reason" for their growth. Several wish to take certain prestige classes, and this could also give reasons for this new life's direction. I can provide more character information if anyone requires it to help me out. I don't know how best to run this. Should I do brief little "adventurelets" per player, making it an individual process? Maybe spend 15 to 20 mintues per player? I can focus on their weaknesses, and have them use their strengths to overcome some adversity. I can address many past issues for them. I wish to use some sort of "mystic site" or something that the monks use to test the spirits and soul and discipline of the devoted. Perhaps a garden or cave or whatever. At the end is some sort of special place -- a fountain, flame, statue, etc. -- that is their goal they reach. Perhaps enhancing them for a certain time or whatever. Another scenerio I also could use is borrowed from the Dragonlance novels, where the heroes go to the Silvanesti's lands and become part of the dream. I COULD make it a group thing. I could also make it just a simple series of unsophisitcated tests; impersonal and not very difficult. Anyway, this is only one part of the session I wish to run. I only wish to make it fun, fit the story, and so on. Please let me know any advice or experiences of your own. Thanks a lot!
