I'm pleased to announce that CC3, our latest map-making software is now available to everyone at an Early Adopter price. For more information on upgrades for CC2 users, crossgrades for Dundjinni and Fractal Mapper users and a gallery, see our partially revamped website.

It should be available for purchase at the enworld store and other etailers on Monday.

I'd be interested in hearing what people's experiences are with CC3... especially existing CC2 users who are upgrading (sorry, I totally don't understand the "steep learning curve" crowd.)

I'm a crappy mapper, so I haven't been able to make the most of it, but so far it's a nice upgrade.

In addition to the old layers you've got drawing sheets -- which seem to me to act like layers, but a little more intuitive. The one thing still missing that I would have liked is a Photoshop or Illustrator-like handling of this where you could easily drag and drop layers into different orderings.

The fills for polygons look nicer, like what you can get out of photoshop (and I think I could probably make tiles in photoshop and use them for fills).

What's been extraordinarily handy for me is that dropping in a background image has been made a lot easier. I had problems in the past with bitmaps and memory issues -- but now I just convert a map of North America into a PNG and drag to fit the map space.

I'm sure there's a lot more but... er, learning curve and all that...

I guess you could call me a fair mapper, I like it, it appears faster, has a vast library of objects and has made some common actions easier to get to.

People talk about the learning curve and there use to be one but that was the past, I don't see it as much. Yes, it is a powerful program and you can do a lot with it, but that is if you need to learn it to that depth, in the past you needed to but now you can create great maps by spending time playing with it.

Oh, the 'Help' is fantastic.

30 minutes on this map looking at the new features.
