My campaign has been running for over 90 sessions now and the 15-16th level PCs are about to finally catch up with the scheming BBEG for the final showdown. The PCs have run into him about a half dozen times during the campaign.[sblock=A little background info for those who're interested]In their first meeting the BBEG managed to complete a bloody sacrifice on stage of a theatre he owned in front of an unsuspecting crowd. The ritual transformed he and a coven of his allies into half-fiend elves. The PCs didn't manage to stop or capture him, though their involvement did reveal the BBEGs true identity to the authorities and made him a fugitive. The PCs then tussled with some of the BBEG's henchmen and family as they pursued him on and off. Eventually when they'd found a large cache of evil magical items and artifacts (during the Banewarrens™ adventure) the BBEG resurfaced to claim the spoils in person. They managed to drive him off by gravely injuring his daughter and then fled with the top prize he'd wanted. They unfortunately left the Banewarrens open, allowing the BBEG to eventually gather all the other evil artifacts they'd left behind. Eventually the PCs tracked the BBEG to a secret dungeon far beneath the theatre in which he housed what remained of his thieves guild, lycanthropic army and infernal allies (pretty much every ally he had left that the PCs hadn't defeated yet). The PCs went on a rampage and managed to kill off half the dungeon's occupants in a few minutes before the BBEG decided to gather what remained of his people and resources and evacuated them all to safety. The PCs and the BBEG didn't face each other that time. Later that night, while the PCs were celebrating their near-victory and resting to regain their spells, the BBEG used what remained of his allies and resources and launched a counter-offensive on the PCs. He unleashed a handful of far-reaching curses on the city they were in, crippling the local government's ability to react and simultaneously had his allies attack the inn where the PCs were staying. The PCs teleported away to safety and the city fell into chaos while they finished resting and recovering their spells. Again, the PCs and the BBEG didn't actually face each other. In the morning the PCs girded their loins, returned to the city, snuck into the theater in which the BBEG was conducting yet another dark ritual (with an unclear purpose) got the jump on him and proceeded to kill him and all the henchmen he had present. As the PCs had been told beforehand though, the BBEG had two clones ready in case something like that happened to him so they knew that the BBEG would still be alive somewhere.[/sblock]It's been a few days since the PCs and BBEG last faced each other and they've been busily trying to track him down. They've just now gotten word from a mysterious ally of theirs (the BBEG traitorous son) that the BBEG's last clone has been destroyed and he's given them a silver fork which can be used as the focus for a Plane Shift spell to reach the BBEG's secret hiding place; a Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion. The inside of the mansion itself can be "any floor plan you desire up to the limit of the spell's effect" (forty-five 10-ft cubes). It's time to draw the campaign to a close; I want this to be the final showdown between the PCs and this particular BBEG (an evil fey'ri divinely infused tainted raver wizard 5 / tainted scholar 10) bent on corruption and his own demonic apotheosis. Does anyone have any suggestions for helping me to make this final confrontation epic and memorable? =)
