Eternal Optimist
Supporter
As we discovered in Campaign Settings II, there exists quite a deal of support for several campaigns settings once produced by TSR/Wizards.

Now, however, a much more difficult question: if only one of those settings could be supported, which would it be? What is the setting that you'd most like to see continued? Why that setting?

Cheers!

Now, as many of you know, I am a long-time lover of the World of Greyhawk. So, I voted for Greyhawk, didn't I?

No, I didn't. Sorry about that.

In truth, I have all the Greyhawk material I need to create exciting adventures and campaigns in that world. Although new material would be nice, there is also a truth that my Greyhawk diverges so much from the standard Greyhawk that as the years go on, new products mean less and less to me.

Greyhawk appealed to me in a large part because it allowed me to control the fate of my campaign, rather than being dependent on other products.

So, what have I voted for?

Eberron.

I've been impressed enough by the little I've seen of it to want to see more of it. So, it gets my vote for the future.

Cheers!

I voted Eberron for one main reason:
1) It's new. It doesn't have an established meta-plot yet and it doesn't have reams of information from old editions attached to it. There's no chance that it'll piss off old players who are unhappy with the 'new' direction it's going in and won't hear stupid posts on the internet about how 'eberrron is geting dumb3d down becuz of X and X woct is st00pid' posts.
Plus, every area detailed doesn't feel like the 'been there done that' of other, old CS. It's NEW, the history is new, everything is new.

Runners up include:
Forgotten Realms
Planescape
Dark Sun

(in that order)

Well, I got the first vote, and I voted Mystara. Seeing the results after I voted, and 100% voted for Mystara. :) Primarily because by itself it essentially includes Hollow World, Red Steel/Savage Coast, Known World, Blackmoor and so, So, SO much more all in one. It had sunken continents, aerial adventures, below ground civilizations, magi-tech, low-magic, high-magic, gunpowder (limited), swashbuckling adventures, viking adventures, asian adventures, "arabian" adventures, adventures to visit vanished civilizations... etc. So much in one package deal.

A very good feeling. ;)

I think you made a good choice. (It's not the one I made, but so what?) Mystara had a lot of really great things about it, and you really could have some fun with it. :)

Cheers!

Forgotten Realms for me; there are several others that I love, and Eberron is much more interesting than I thought it would be, but I've loved the Realms ever since the 1st edition boxed set.

If I were to vote at this moment in time, I'd say Eberron.

However, I won't vote for that very fact; I think Eberron needs to kick around for a year or two, at least, before it really deserves being given preference over other campaign settings.

A campaign setting should get past its shiny and new phase first, to see whether it truly is something solid and worthwhile, or its initial popularity was for being something different.

With that said, again, right now, I'd vote for Eberron. I really do like it and do think it will still be enjoyed after existing for a while longer, but think it needs some time to settle in.

My situation was just like MerricB--Mystara is the greatest campaign setting ever, but I didn't vote for it. If they brought back support, it would be with the Wrath of the Immortals plot built in, something that has never happened (and never will) in my Mystara. I've got all the Gazetteers, all the Hollow World books, pretty much everything I need to run the campaign for the rest of my life. Ready-made conversions would be nice, but I can do that myself, really. I felt the same about Darksun. Great setting, own everything ever published for it, don't like the Prism Pentad changes...

So my vote goes to Eberron. Great potential, fresh ideas/implementation, and an open canvas for development.
