Campaigns you *don't* want to play in

I got dice older than you.
Inspired by a similarly named thread....

What settings and/or rulesets have you had enough of?

I DM a 3E homebrew, and it's getting old. I don't mind 3E rules, but can't tell if I'm tired of running the show, or if I'm just running out of time/ideas. At any rate, I need a change.

We tried playing a game of Nobilis under the auspices of one of the best GM's ever.

The game sucked. We stopped playing that night and never reconvened.

If he mentions starting it up again, I will pass. One of the unexpectedly worst gaming experiences ever.

Hunter: The Reckoning. Okay, let's take all these cool things, like Vampires, Wraiths, Changelings. See them there? Yep, okay, we're not playing them. We're playing HUMANs, and those are the enemies...

*sigh*

I'm having a hard time thinking of a setting I wouldn't at least want to try. (I'm such a nerd)

I guess maybe Diomin. But even then, my complaint with the book was how it was written. Maybe if I gamed under the guy who wrote it I might like it more.

High magic, high fantasy, uber-levelling standard 3e D&D. After the initial rush when the system was first released, I quickly realized that although 3e fixed most of the *system* problems I have with 3e, it didn't fix any of the *other* problems I have with D&D, which is why I'm constantly "kitbashing" in items from CoC, D20 Modern, custom spell-systems, etc. to try and make it more like what I want to play/run.

Amen, Joshua. I'm extremely tired of high magic, high fantasy, save the world type games. I find it much more interesting for a world to be a fully developed place, not in danger of ending every 100-1000 years by some uber-bad guy. I love detail and background, the better to make a vibrant world with. Let the PCs choose their own way, but don't force them into the roles of heroes.

Of the published worlds though, I have played and wouldn't ever play again: Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, and to a lesser degree Dark Sun.

Nobilis is a tough game to run. The quality of the game is based NOT on the quality of the GM, but rather that of the players. It places a great deal of power in their hands, and it falls to them to carry the game, rather than the GM (or Hollyhock God, as they're called). It is a completely different type of RPG from D&D. It's closer to the card game 'Once Upon a Time' than it is to D&D.
