As a for house rule we use - Items depending on their shape to manifest their bonus (armour, wands, weaponry, things with embellishments projecting their magic - helm of brilliance, bags, clothing and most jewellery besides rings and amulets) are subsumed into the wild shape/polymorph and are temporarily suppressed/inactive. And yes, we had some severe problemes with polymorphed (3.5) casters to make us draw up the rule. Ever faced a funky Blue Slaad-shaped wizard ( that thing has anatomy and can speak, yes. Besides having humongous stats and nasty close comabt  attacks ) or one going into the shape of an Annis Hag  and still having access to his hoarded wands, protective gear etc.. makes him a viable combat choice, actually.  Of course he can dress down,  polymorph and pick up his old equipment again, but _that_ will take a couple of minutes off his precious time changed.</blockquote>
