Can a shadowcaster use Precocious Apprentice?

Can my shadowcaster use precocoious apprentice? When a shadowcaster casts a mystery as a spell, it's arcane. That could make it qualify for the "arcane caster level 1st" requirement. My shadowcaster has Int 16 and Cha 18. That covers the spellcasting ability prerequisite. However, when dealing with shadow magic, do we subsitute "school of magic" for "path"? Does this feat allow him to learn an extra mystery?


I realize this could open up a can of worms, here, but I'd appreciate your help.

The shadowcaster casts mysteries as arcane spells, but they're not arcane spells in the strictest sense of the word. That's also why a shadowcaster doesn't qualify for PrCs that require "X levels of arcane spellcasting ability."
