A little history: Blackmoor was Dave Arneson's campaign in the embryonic days of D&D. There are arguments between Gygax and Arneson supporters as to who created what and when, and I won't get into that. Suffice it to say, the Blackmoor campaign is one of the places that D&D took form prior to it's initial publication in 1974. Arneson's Blackmoor Supplement from 1975 added some rules to the game from his campaign, and also offered the Temple of the Frog scenario - the first published adventure for D&D, which was set in Blackmoor. "The First Fantasy Campaign" was published by Judges Guild in 1977 and reprinted in 1980. It gave fuller details of the campaign as well as numerous alternate rules used. In 1986, the DA series of D&D modules came out - Adventures in Blackmoor, Temple of the Frog, City of the Gods, Duchy of Tenh. These added detail to what was already in the FFC and placed Blackmoor in the distant past of D&D's Known World. The adventures dealt with the initial phases of the Kingdom of Blackmoor coming to prominance. > > > Possible Spoiler Alert > > > One of the main differences with Blackmoor was the science fiction element to the setting. The City of the Gods was a crashed spacecraft, and Blackmoor's obtaining of the technology there and consequent developement and use thereof, allowed Blackmoor to defeat its many sizable enemies and become a magic/technology based world power. Of Blackmoor's many enemies are a great group of nomadic invader, reaving viking types, the great empire of which Blackmoor was once a part, and the infamous Egg of Coot. The Egg may or may not be another technologically based menace. There are a number of internal threats as well. The worst being a cabaal of wizards. End spoilers... How much and to what extent this stuff will be incorporated into the new product, I don't know. Although, I can virtually guarantee you that the Known World element will be thrown out. R.A.
