Canada's GENCON

Bayshore

First Post
First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong thread, I looked around and couldn't find one more appropriate. Please move it if it's in the wrong place. Thanks.

The Great Canadian BayCon is being held in Hamilton Ontario, at the Hamilton Convention Centre on Sunday, May 11, 2003, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. There will be a ton of events and many different games that will be played, such as D&D Magic, Warhammer 40k and a whole lot more. The special guest is Michael Stackpole, author of Star Wars, Battletech and other Sci-Fi Novels. Also attending will be reps from White Wolf, Wizards of the Coast AEG, Games Workshop, Fast Forward Entertainment, Fantasy Flight Games, Eden Studios and many more!!

One of the big attractions is the used game sale where hundreds of recent and out of date, or hard to find books, modules and supplements are up for sale. You might find that 1st edition Greyhawk box set you were looking for!

Further more, the Settlers of Catan Canadian Championship will be held at the convention. Players from all across the country are trying to win 1st place and the honor of representing Canada at the World Championships in Germany, flight paid for by us!!

Situated in between Toronto and Buffalo, Hamilton is centrally located with many attractions.

For more information about the convention, please check out our web page at: http://www.greatcanadianbaycon.ca/

If you have some questions please post them here or on the web page, or email us at baycon@interlynx.net

Hope to see you there!!

Chroma its great to hear that!! Will you be going, We hope to see you there. If you do go will you be participating in any of the events or maybe enter the painting contest??

I too have always considered CanGames to be the closest thing to a Canadian GenCon. I remember my first ever issue of Dragon Magazine (circa 1981) included a convention report from CanGames.

What are attendence figures like for this convention (before I consider hitching up the old Ambient Inc. production team to head out to see it)?

If you are interested about perhaps setting up a booth, please email us with your questions and we will see if we can get you one. There will be over a lot of reps from other games, so far around 20. Honestly the number of people is unclear, tickets are selling quickly but if last years turn out is any indication, people were waiting outside to get in at 10 the night before for the used game sale alone!

Thanks

Thanks P-Cat, that's basically what I am asking.

We aren't looking at sending reps, we are talking about sending the core of team Ambient with our current print products as well as those from the publishers we work with.

Although reading the webpage indicates that this is a first-time Con, so actually attendence figures from previous years probably don't exist...

Yup. There's a difference between a homey little con that anticipates 300 people and one that expects 1000 or more. Both are fun, but the anticipated size can give folks a good idea of how many games and events to expect.
