Capital city.

This is a capital city in the world I am building. I would like to see what the rest of you think. Not sure if I want to add to it or not.

Sorenstam:

The Terrain:
Sorenstam is surrounded by open plains, farmlands, and rolling hills all of which accumulate to what is called The Plidaian Plains.

Sorenstam:

Population: 47,856, 60% human, 20% half-elf, 10% halfling, 10% various other races.

History:
The city of Sorenstam is the second settlement upon the new land. The young cleric of Theigon, Demas Sorenstam, that traveled with the group of adventurers and travelers that went to seek new land just before the desolation of the land in the east, found and picked a spot about twenty miles from the coast to build a temple to Theigon. He thought it would be a good idea to establish a center of worship in the land before everyone from the kingdom reached the area. Through some hard negotiations with dwarves with trade agreements the ranger Hesian was able to get enough stone to build the temple. The main structure of The House of Perfection was finished in the late autumn of The Year of New Beginnings, 1 AD. By the time of the dedicating of the temple many of the people had already begun settling down on the land surrounding it. The people built up a town around the temple within the next couple of years and decided to name it after the cleric who founded the new temple for worship, Sorenstam.
The town grew so rapidly that the king decided to make it his residence. It took a little over a year after the temple was dedicated before a new palace was erected in what is now called The Royal District of the city.
The first hundred years were some what peaceful in this area. Port Carxan was established in 17AD twenty miles away at the cost and the wealth of the sea was brought into Sorenstam continually. Life was going great for the people in the city. The town grew to over ten thousand before the first seventy years went by and the trade that was coming in from the other cities established in the province seemed to have no problem getting through. It seemed that the area was completely moved out of before they got there. The occasional goblin raid or small bad of gnolls would try to take over caravans, but they were easily over come.
In the year 102AD a man came to the city preaching of a coming healer that would save everyone from the lies that the Theigonites had told them. The man began to create turmoil and strife among the people of Sorenstam and King Vantezabac had to bring in extra guard and knights to calm the people. The man was hard to find for a while, but eventually he was captured and put into the top of the Tower of Blasindor. (The tower of Blasindor was built by a cleric of the same name. The tower sits in a courtyard behind The House of Perfection.) Every day and night the people in the temple district could hear the screams of this man, and eventually the screams stopped and the people went about their normal lives. Thirteen years later, 115AD another man shows up claiming that the king and the clerics of Theigon were out to destroy the people of Sorenstam with their lies. The Healer will soon come he said and cleanse this place of the Theigonites and their king. King Vantezabac did not like the sound this mans preaching at all and ordered the man to be caught and publicly put to death on the grounds of threatening the king’s life. So the man was caught and had his head severed from his head in front of the temple of Theigon for all to see. After this second preacher was executed the king had scouts go and find a patch of land in which to build a castle for the king to dwell in away from the town of Sorenstam. The scouts came back and reported that they found land to the north, so the king ordered an immediate building of his castle. The castle was finished in the year 121 and King Vantezabac quickly moved there.
The king left three nobles to take care of the goings on of the city. The three nobles each resided over a particular part of the city. One over the merchants and such, one over the guard and city defenses, and one over the over all wealth of the city. On major matters of the city these three nobles along with the leader of the merchant’s guild, the captain of the guard, and the High Priest of Theigon discussed the situation and decided on the best course of action. For well over a century afterward nothing was heard of this Healer that was to come.
In the year 297 a third man came into the city preaching the same thing that the other two had. Many kings had come and gone since the time of the first preacher had come. This man did not hide though and stood in the middle of temple district. Many guard tried to subdue the man but all met a quick death in the process. The man preached that the time had come for the Healer and that he was to announce his coming. The guard stood watch and reports of a cloud blazon with fire was approaching the city was heard. Many warriors and such were hired and surrounded the city trying to keep out whatever was coming for them. The cloud eventually reached the city and hovered over the preacher who stood in the city. A blaze of fire came down from the cloud and consumed the man and then a second blaze of fire came down and leaves a man clad in metallic black armor. With red eyes and an open mouth energy forcefully rushed out of him and destroyed many of the guard and soldiers that stood around. The champion Argyle Deselen, a monster of a man stands a little over seven foot, and his band of paladins stood fearless at the danger and rushed in to attack the foe. After a long a gruesome battle the only two men left standing were Deselen and the figure in black. Blow for blow the men just would not go down until finally knocked the man down to the ground and shoved his greatsword through the mans head. After that battle though Argyle was never able to fight again. He decided instead to retire and start a training ground for those who were willing to take on the challenge of paladinhood. (No one ever figured out why the creature was called The Healer by the preachers that came before him.)
After the battle between Argyle and the black armored figure the temple district had to be rebuilt. This reconstruction took almost a year and gave the city a sense of camaraderie amongst the people. On the 8th day of the 8th month the rebuilding was finished and a celebration was made. The Celebration of Renewal was put on by the church of Dasha, even though the celebration was during the heat of summer, and the church of Theigon supported this event. A festival then was given by the church of Theigon on the 13th day of the 11th month, this festival celebrated the anniversary of the defeat of the figure in black, and it lasted for a week.
In 316AD the clerics of Theigon supplied healing and services from Sorenstam to aid the war to the South. Several rebel Ashanti tribes had joined forces with the people of Carthaine to try and destroy the city of Saegan’s Door. Saegan’s Door was the largest city that anyone new about, and everyone knew that whoever controlled that city controlled trade in the known lands. The Clerics of Theigon setup a camp in Saegan’s Door to try and aid as much as they could. A group of paladins from Quandra were sent as well to keep the city fortified. After a couple of years of conflict and fighting the Corthainise and the Ashanti were driven back, and the Battle for Saegan’s Door was won. The cleric of Theigon that aided the matter stayed in Saegan’s Door and resurrected a temple there.
In 362AD the school of The Divine Right was started just north of Sorenstam by the wizard Athinadal Wisprine. The school began mainly for the purpose of divination magic and creating magic items but it grew rapidly and had over a hundred members before the year was out. The school then began taking on apprentices from all around in order to further the prosper of magic. The school decided to start a traditional festival of magic in the name Mageia and invited the people of Sorenstam and all around the area.
Sorenstam had the luxury of only having to be a part of one major war that took place near the city. He place called The Tower of Murder set about 40 miles east of Sorenstam. Resinal, a cleric of Sukarios, began the building of this tower in the year 416AD. The purpose of the tower itself was not really known to the rest of the people of the land and the fact that a cleric of Sukarios was the one in charge was not realized at first. The tower took 6 years to build and the height of it stretched higher than anyone had ever seen. Unknown to the rest of the land this tower was a conduit that was placed in a precise place on the land in order to bring the Lord of Murder to Venturas. This effected Sorenstam directly seeing that other than some small villages and such many people were kidnapped from there to be used as sacrifices to Sukarios. When the deed of the missing people came back to the people of the tower, and the revelation of the tower being run by the clerics of Sukarios became known, the king hired adventurers to try and take care of this matter. Eight adventurers took on this deed of destroying the tower and ridding the land of the clerics. A large battle infused and many died. It came to the end when a young cleric of Theigon bowed down to his knees and in a desperate cried asked for the power of Theigon to assist in the battle. From the sky a single bolt of lightning rolled from the sky, struck the tower and split it in two. The upper half came crashing to the ground on its head and the other half stayed in its place. The ruins of this tower still lay in where it fell. The clerics fled after this and many were captured, but some got away. The funny thing about the two sections of the tower is that they still stand higher than any of the wizards towers in the land.
The city of Sorenstam is really the pentacle of church of Theigon. Throughout the years since the Desolation Sorenstam has been a place where all the people of the land looked to for guidance. This is why the city was chosen as the capital city of Wystilyn. Although it is not the largest city in the land it holds a lot of the knowledge and forbearance of the old land. The king also choose this city as his dwelling place for a time and the kings still keep the palace there to go to if they wish.
The city of Sorenstam has five different districts to it: The Royal District, The Merchant District, The Prison District, The Temple District, and The Kender District. The Kender District is small but distinct. The Temple District Has temples to Theigon, Spilan, Dasha, Zimer, Nathiyn, Anon, and Thainan. There is a temple to Mageia at the Divine Right school to the north and a small temple to Dithalus at Port Carxan at the coast. The middle part of the city is called The Guildmasters Square. Many guilds have shops here and outposts in which they constantly try to get new members and such.
Much of the food supply for Sorenstam comes from farmlands and ranches around the area along with fish and such that is gotten from trade with Port Carxan.
The current leaders of Sorenstam are the three nobles Vedric Asenbaul, Ointh Heagren, and Baldinsy Walsington. The current High Priest of Theigon is Quan Feltiens Gedrinc. (Quan is a title given to the clerics of Theigon.) The captain of the city guard is Omar Kliesden. The current leader of the merchants guild is Gerald Jaegerman.
