Filming was March to June 2023. So well after the pandemic. And the CGI must have been after that. So there's no pandemic excuse for the that, not really. The re-writes might be pandemic or might just be Disney cowardice. With FatWS they were Disney cowardice even though it was in the pandemic. They initially thought they made the "bad guys" were too sympathetic and the ending insufficiently condemnatory of them (and also wanted the ending to link into Secret Wars, which it didn't originally, because they thought Secret Wars would be out fairly soon after it lol), which is why there's that insane out-of-nowhere "Oh yeah I blow up hospitals lol" scene and why the ending is a total mess. It's very funny Disney are scared of this when they also put out Andor which is like "KILLING FASCISTS AND THEIR MINIONS AND COLLABORATORS AND VIOLENTLY OVERTHROWING TOTALITARIAN REGIMES IS AN OBJECTIVE GOOD!" and where the showrunner is literally saying he based the two main good guys on Lenin and (young, not evil dictator mode) Stalin! But Disney are nothing if not a land of contradictions. Thunderbolts* looks like it's using rather less CGI than usual, and I expect it'll be fine there. FF4 remains to be seen. If both escape then we can hope Marvel has sorted out their CGI quality issues, but we've been fooled before on that!
