Greetings all, As you may or may not know we've recently launched a kickstarter project for C&C Players Handbook. But it has been brought to my dim witted attention that many people don't know what C&C is and that I should assume no knowledge. :) In my previous post I just put up the standard boiler plate. But below find what I normally pitch at conventions. Its pretty condensed. What is Castles & Crusades? Castles & Crusades is a rules light fantasy role playing game. Back in 2004 and 2005 we took the OGL and refocused the attention of the game. One simple mechanic drives the game's conflict, the attribute check system, the Siege Engine. Siege allows the Castle Keeper, our GM, to easily adjudicate any situation. The Siege Engine is extremely versatile, open for use in almost any situation. If you have two dwarves that decide to tie themselves together and loop their bodies as ballast on a floating log, all in order to cross a raging river, the Siege Engine covers it. Have a paladin being lifted hundreds of feet in the air, dropped, only to pull out his ring of feather falling and ask if he can put it on before he hits the ground? The Siege Engine covers it. Diplomacy, guard duty, negotiating prices... Here’s how it works Same 13 characters. Same 6 attributes. Same races. Character attributes are either primary or secondary. Humans have 3 primary, demi-humans have 2. Challenges are rolled against the attribute. Any primary attribute has a base chance to succeed of 12. Any secondary attribute has a base chance to succeed of 18. If something comes up that requires an attribute check the characters roll a d20, add their level, their attribute bonus and check whether it’s a primary or secondary. The CK sets a challenge level to the task, depending on how difficult the task is or is not. This challenge level is added to the base. If the characters roll plus bonuses meets or exceed the base +1 challenge level, the action succeeds. Example: Fighter wants to move a rock. The rock is very big. He has a strength of 18. Its a primary attribute. He is 4th level. The Ck sets a challenge level of 7 to move the rock. The CL is added to the base, which is 12. The fighter needs a 19 to move the rock. He rolls.
