Castles & Crusades question

I hate cluttering up the forum with a completely logistical question, so hopefully this thread will be quickly answered and can die a painless death.

Very simply: Is the C&C digest Player's Handbook the exact same text and format as the 4th printing? I've read that it has tiny text. I don't mind relatively small and would prefer paying $15 rather than $25, but how tiny is tiny? Is it still double-columned?

Thanks!

As to your question, I am not certain. I believe it is the same format, it IS the same content as the latest printing. You may want to wait though. I've heard a 5th printing is coming out soon. Don't know it it is simply another printing or if there will be changes like the 4th printing had.

As to size of the print, can't say. I never bought this version.

Thanks for the response, Treebore. I'm mainly just curious about the game, so the cheaper the better, and--at this point at least--I don't plan on getting any other books.

I'll probably just get the digest version. $15 isn't too bad. If I love the game then I'll get the 5th printing if and when it comes out.

I own the Digest Version of the CKG, and assuming they use the same method, it's the exact same text and layout scaled down to the digest-sized pages. It's not unreadable, but it can be a bit of a strain.

The eBook versions for Kindle and Nook are only $10, so if you have one of those, that might be the best way to sample it. I just downloaded the free sample to my Kindle Fire, and while it's illustration-free and not the cleanest table layout, it's definitely workable. (The free sample contains the introduction, ability scores chapter, and the class writeups for Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Assassin and Ranger, so there's a bit of meat to it as well as giving you a sense of how it looks on a Kindle.)

I think you'll enjoy it. To me, it's my favorite retro clone with a 3e ruleset and the books are beautiful.
