In my campaign world there is a group known as Dweomer Knights. They were previously wizards who were from a knightly background and rode fantastic creatures. With the introduction of the APG I think there is a much more interesting way to model this: the Cavalier/Summoner. Cavaliers gain a special mount ability and the Summoner can ride his eidolon so I came up with a modified mount ability for the Cavalier which would become a substitution ability whenever he joins whichever order of Dweomer Knights. Please let me know if you think anything is terribly out of whack with this modified ability.
Eidolon Mount (Ex): A dweomerknight’s eidolon serves as a loyal and trusty steed to carry him into battle. Levels of cavalier and summoner stack when determining eidolon base statistics. If the eidolon is not capable of serving as a mount, such as the case with a medium dweomerknight of less than 8th level, the eidolon receives a size increase to large but without any of the standard modifiers generally granted by an increase in size. However, the eidolon does receive a +8 bonus to its strength for the purpose of calculating carrying capacity only.
A dweomerknight does not take an armor check penalty on Ride checks while riding his eidolon. The eidolon is always considered combat trained thus negating the need for the ‘mount’ evolution. The eidolon does not gain the Light Armor Proficiency feat as a cavalier’s special mount normally would. A dweomerknight’s eidolon does gain the share spells ability unlike the cavalier’s special mount.
