From atop Hael's flying bat, Zarra looks down. The bat seems to be struggling under the weight of both the duergar and herself. Hael senses the same of his flying companion--the bat is ill-accustomed to carrying more than one and the extra weight is rapidly tiring the creature. I see carrying capacity of 200 lbs for a dire bat. Let me know if you feel this should be different. As the bat wings over a boulder, Zarra spots what the others walking on the ground have already noticed--there is evidence of the passage of caravans. Broken axles, fragments of splintered wagon floorboards, warped bits of metal, and the bones of a beast of burden with the leather straps still affixed to it litter the passageway at irregular intervals. There is also sign of wheel ruts here and there--not often but enough to speak of the passing of wagons. The passage would be nearly impossible to traverse during the first mile out of Szith Morcane. Into the second hour of their journey, the party soon spies a team of two kuo-toa carters and a third kuo-toan porter heavily laden with gear and merchandise. The three kuo-toan have made camp to the side of the wide passageway and appear to intent on repairing the broken haft of a handle on one of the carts while the third kuo-toa busily shreds strips of pale dried flesh in a makeshift dinner. The kuo-toan look up with interest as the party nears their encampment from some 60 feet away.
