The rat, which does indeed appear to be thoroughly dead, sports a gnarled leather collar around its neck. Judging by the matted fur underneath and several red, raw open sores created by the leather, the collar looks to be a fairly recent adornment yet something worn long enough to injure the beast. Other than the collar, Karl finds nothing of interest on the rat. Searching the putrid goblin corpse, which sports breeches alone and a bare chest with the right side skin and connective tissue ripped through to show milky white bone underneath, yields 3 copper pennies from the breeches pocket. All three pennies bear a strange and crude insignia stamped on one side, while the opposite side is blank. A hide pouch strung about the goblin's neck reveals a surprising find. Karl finds 23 silver marks and 4 intact gold crowns inside the neck pouch. All the coins inside the neck pouch are of Velunian minting. A broken half-spear lies in three pieces along the pit's east side. To the west looms the surviving structure of what must be the Citadel. A tower stands on the west side of the courtyard. The expanse of crumbled masonry surrounds the remains of the entire keep. Small rats can be seen fleeing from the light shed by Kiaphas's sunrod. A stone door shod with iron bracers is inset into the west tower that darkly looms over Karl's pit.
