CCC –Then- T01-01 Beneath the Surface jasper does con prep CCC –Then- T01-01 Beneath the Surface I ran a group thru last Sunday, 4 person table level 3 or 4. Part 1 seems padded with the Reginold Swifthold. Unless his story affects the upcoming modules, the adventure, it seems too much information for no gain. Part 2 has some mean things. If you have bad rolls, you could break a leg if a rift opens under you. I did take this idea and run with. I had the rift open up to the underground ruins and lost the ramp flavor text. Part 3. The sunken city seems to be setting up other adventures. The monsters are now in Xanathar’s Guide if the group wants a picture. The Failing Magic has one major flaw. The first boss monster has a cantrip which fixes the plot point. I changed the ambush trigger to the standing teleporting stone. Since was flavor text I had it going to Chult. I had the boss monster surrender after his minions were killed. He then fixed the skull and gave information that the Grungs had captives. The captives and mostly dead Grungs again seem to set up further adventures. Since the group approached openly I had one Grung go out and talk with the pc who had an actor background. He rolled well on his bluff about being a health inspector. The Grung Wildling came out a few seconds later and dropped his guard to let the actor close. Having all the monsters in one building could be a problem. I suggest the DM change the locations if necessary. Also mistake on the treasure. Page 17 gives a map and then list the weapons and armour as possible treasure, but then take away. If you are running this as a series, I would allow the player to temporary keep the stuff. Part 4 is just a set up for the next series of adventures. Question Do all 3rd level Paladins get immunity to poison?
