Changing a monster type

Say I wanted to change the type of a creature, does its BAB and base saves change as well?

For example, a goblin is a humanoid. Its good save is fort and BAB is 3/4 right? NOw, I make it an half-elemental goblin which changes its type to outsider. DOes that make it have all good saves and BAB 1/1 like outsiders?

No. Such things only change if the template specifically states that they change Just as the template does not change the Hit Dice to all D8 (which would only be important is the goblin has class levels).

Trentonjoe: Well, if you look at the half-fiends that WotC have released in their monsterbooks (I'm talking about the Draegloth and the Durzagon specifically here) they are full outsiders, with Outsider HD, BAB, and Saves.

It would only make sense that a creatures HD, BAB, and saves change when it changes type, IMHO, this of course is not counting eventual class level that creature posseses.

I suggest you do what you feel is right. :D I also suggest you up the goblins HD to 5. :D

Thanks for the input. I gave them outsiders stats. I also gave the goblins 2HD and made them medium sized. The leaderis going to have some class levels giving a total of 5HD. I want to use lots of them and leave the EL around 9-10.

I'll post them tomorrow, I finished them but left them at work. I think I am going to post the whole goblin tribe in the rogues gallery.

When it is done it will be:

1 large Ice Paraelemental CR5
1 Goblin leader CR5
4 1/2 Ice goblins CR2
2 classed arctic goblins CR 1
~10 Arctic Goblins CR 1/2

The Arctic template is from Dragon #306.

By the way, note that all 1-HD humanoid (the kobold is not a 1-HD humanoid) have 1 level of warrior rather than a monster HD. So their BAB is already +1.

Right idea, wrong creatures. If you look at the template samples provided with the templates, you will notice it works as I said. :p

That is how they are supposed to work, that much I agree with you on. But my way (and the way WotC has done it with the half-fiend drow and the half-fiend duegar) makes much more sense if the creature was born a half-fiend rather than getting the template through magic or by infusion by infernal/abyssal energies. :D
