I'm starting a high-powered campaign, and I'm thinking of using the following rules:

Choose a race before rolling for stats:

Any LA +0 race, roll 5d6 keep best 3, arrange to taste.
Any LA +1 race, roll 4d6 keep best 3, arrange to taste. Treated as LA +0 thereafter.
Any LA +2 race, roll 3d6 straight up, arrange to taste. Treated as LA +0 thereafter.

Any LA +0 race can choose to be gestalt instead, and then uses the LA +2 race rolling method. But no LA adjustment thereafter.

What do you think?

I think its accentuates the basic problem with rolling stats in the first place. Now stastically speaking, the +0 races will have better base stats than their +1 and +2 cousins. But that may not be what happens.

What happens if your 5d6 guy just rolls bad that night, and the 3d6 guy rolls amazingly? Now you have a guy with awesome stats AND a +2 LA race stacked on top while the other guy is stuck with chump.

Given the randomness of dice I would use points buy and just modify the points given for each LA. Maybe 25 at LA +2, 28 at LA +1, 32 at LA +0.
