Well, here's a few ideas (more pending later):

An elven bard, armed with a bow & a pair of light weapons (daggers, short swords, rapiers, etc.) Takes Weapon Finesse & Two-Weapon Fighting (& possibly Two-Weapon Defense) for melee combat, while focusing on archery-related feats for ranged combat. If you focus on archery first, it's feasible to become an arcane archer. Not quite a travelling performer, but rather a sort of jack-of-all-trades & scholar--think of a mix between Legolas & Indiana Jones.
A dwarven paladin, samurai, or monk with just the right feat selection to become a dwarven defender. Very focused on faith & honor--abstains from alcohol & other indulgences. Is even-tempered & well-groomed (and, horror of horrors, may do such things as trimming his hair & beard short for ease of grooming/maintenence).
A gnome ranger or druid with a riding dog as his/her animal companion--serves both an animal companion & a mount. The riding dog goes everywhere with the character, and the gnome frequently holds (rather one-sided) conversations with the animal.
A halfling sorcerer who dresses more like a commoner or craftsman rather than an adventurer or mage. Is fond of using light weapons that are handy in both melee & ranged combat, like daggers. May carry a sturdy walking stick/cane that can double as a staff or club, and a sling. Is very personable, & often relates with the common folk rather than with fellow spellcasters or adventurers. The halfling's familiar can easily be mistaken for a typical domesticated pet or work animal (such as a cat, hawk, or weasel).
A half-orc cleric of healing. Will fight in combat to protect his/her friends or those under his/her care, but doesn't relish the idea of combat. Tends to be calm, polite, and well-mannered, displaying a good bedside manner with patients.
A half-elf barbarian (the child of a human barbarian & a wild elf). Thoroughly enjoys life & living life. Shows great prowess as a warrior, but doesn't really have the patience to be a disciplined fighter. Armed with simpler, earlier forms of weapons (bows, axes, longswords or short swords, spears, clubs, etc.), as well as simpler forms of armor (leather, hide, studded leather, chain shirt, wooden shields, etc.). More along the lines of an Anglo-Saxon, Viking, or other early Germanic tribesman.
A human fighter whose entire livelihood is made as a soldier & mercenary. Tends to carry all the necessary gear for travel/adventuring, and wears armor that allows for a decent mix of protection & mobility (mainly light or medium armors, as well as shields; mithral medium armors would be ideal for their improved mobility & greater protection). Has a very practical view of things, & tries to cover various situations as needed. Armed with a light crossbow (for decent damage & range in a compact ranged weapon), a halberd (as a versatile 2-handed weapon that can be used for tripping or be set for a charge), a bastard sword (as a versatile slashing weapon), a warhammer (which works as a blunt weapon & a tool), and a dagger (which works as a tool, eating utensil, & last-ditch weapon). Wears gauntlets in order to cause lethal damage with unarmed strikes.
I'll post a few more ideas later on.
