I'm not sure how to advance my current char. We're playing a mostly hack&slash campaign and other chars in the party are archer (ranger/AA), bard, cleric, wizard/loremaster, fighter. We use core set and complete warroir/divine, maybe races of stone, and will be using epic level handbook. My character is 18th and about to level up to 20. His class levels are 2 bard, 4 fighter, 10 dragon disciple (gold), 2 cavalier. Feats: mounted combat/ride-by-attack/spirited charge, focus/spec lance, ironw will, power attack, imptoved toughness (complete warrior), lightning reflexes. Current stats: str 24, dex 14, con 20, int 12, wis 8, cha 14. Current eq: zip, 740.000 gp. As you can probably tell I have been using riding dogs since low-level, but charging isn't all that good anymore. I have two alternative paths in mind: 1. Go paladin to level 23 to get paladin steed (combines lvls with cavalier) and progress as cavalier, maybe selecting leadership at level 18 and combining to get a better mount. This option keeps the mounted flavour and gives better saves (divine grace and buying standard og heroism from complete warrior), plus smite combines well with charging. This char also has a good first round attack, and at cvalier 6 gets full mounted attack, which in essence equals the epic level handbook feat dire charge. Drawback is depending on the mount and one level of xp penalty (I am lvl 20 but haven't leveled up). 2. Going fighter from lvl 18, taking one level of exotic weapon master at 21 and choosing uncanny blow (complete warrior, using bastard sword in two hands for 2x str damage bonus), and then pure fighter for focuses and specializations. Combined with a +5 holy shocking flaming etc. bastard sword this char would deal significantly more damage. Possibly going for legendary dreadnought in the distant future (around level 33). The eq I'm likely to buy either way includes ring of prot+5, amulet nat armor +5, belt of str+6, cloak of resistance+5, mithral full plate+5, gloves of dex +2, ring of freedom of movement (grapple vulnerable as a small char, though considering a permanencied enlarge), boots of speed, animated shield+5, a couple of ioun stones, +13str composite bow, and str manual+5. Thanks for taking the time to read this- any suggestions or comments greatly appreciated.
