Character Generator

KarinsDad

Adventurer
I haven't played DND for a year and a half, but just started a group up.

I was wondering if that third party company that WotC was working with for a DND character generator ever got it released.

If so, how can I get a copy?

If not, is there any shareware stuff like a spreadsheet or something?

I'm specifically looking for a 3E tool, not 3.5.

Thanks in advance.

The company that is revising the e-Tools character generation software, under license from WotC, is Code Monkey Publishing . You will also want to check out the web page for PCGen, which is a Java-based character generator made by the same guys (more or less).

PCGen is quite robust at supporting D&D 3.0, and they are working on converting it to support 3.5 real soon now.

I tried out the 3.5 version of the HeroForge spreadsheet a couple of days ago and really liked it - except for the way it handles encumbrance. If your character has a light load, everything's fine. I'm really impressed with the results. However, a couple of characters I generated were carrying medium loads and the sheet doesn't pick up on that by way of armour check penalties or reduced speed.

I couldn't find a reference to the author's email address, so I was unable to offer him or her my undying gratitude/body/eternal servitude in return for making such a modification. I'd do it myself, if I knew how. Shame on me...

Otherwise, it's a nifty spreadsheet. I'll still use it for less overladen NPCs, as well as PC Gen (when it delivers on 3.5), simply because it's so fast by comparison.

Holy crap on a stick! KD, I was just wondering where you'd been.

Good to see you back.
"Snake Pliskin? I heard you were dead."

KD, I'd also recommend DM Genie, if you're willing to drop a little coin. It supports 3.0 and 3.5, has a good character generator, and is constantly being updated. It's excellent for running combats or generating monsters on the fly, if you are so inclined.

Oh, and by the way, nice to see you again. Which is what Mr. "I'm-gone-for-three-weeks-honest-and-I'll-never-post-none-nowhow-see-ya-gotta-go-now" was saying. :)
