Characters who eschew magic

How many of you currently play or have recently played a character who avoids using any magic spells or items? He relies on his own body, skills, normal gear and not even a single +1 to make his way in the world?

I haven't, but I have considered making a character who takes the Vow of Poverty. I was going to give it to my Cleric character, but then I realised that I'd have to throw away the weapon an angel gave me. Seems a bit insulting

Closest I've come is a character where I always insisted on my Will save when the cleric cast 'Bless', since the character felt accepting a blessing from another man's god was heretical

In a world were magic exists, it would be downright stupid for someone to not take advantage of it whenever the chance arises...

If it's from an appropriate deity -- simply call upon the angel, and sacrifice the weapon back to them on an altar, stating that you've moved past material things, and you can now do good without the gift, which should now go to another. If you want, of course.

If it's from an appropriate deity -- simply call upon the angel, and sacrifice the weapon back to them on an altar, stating that you've moved past material things, and you can now do good without the gift, which should now go to another. If you want, of course.

Ha ha, you caught me. Alright, I love my magic sword and wouldn't trade it for the world . I guess the Vow of Poverty was just a nice idea . . .

At low levels, without some compensating factor like the Vow of Poverty, it's possible. At mid-levels, it's doable but extremely difficult. At high levels, and epic levels, it's either impossible or so ridiculously complicated as to detract from the game.

That would be like going to a modern war without technology (guns, missiles, tanks, etc).
